INDIAN MILITARY ACADEMY

The IMA was formally inaugurated by Field Marshal Sir Philip Chetwode, then Commander-in-chief of India. (at Dehradun- Now capital of Uttarnchal) It started functioning with effect from 01 October 1932. It is the Premier training centre for Officers getting their permanent commission in to the Indian Army .

The Training period for Direct Entry Non technical Cadets is 1 and ½ Years while cadets from NDA and ACC are given 1 years training prior to their commissioning.

For Technical Entry Cadets the training is for a period of 1 Year.There are Four Battalions namely:- Cariappa, Thimayya, Manekshaw and Bhagat each of these has two companies under them.

On completion of training at the IMA, the cadets are awarded the Post Graduate Diploma in Military Studies and Defence. The Diploma is recognized by then HNB Garhwal University.

Getting through IMA:-

Stage 1. Apply in response to the News paper advertisement (See Employment News during Mar/Apr & Oct / Nov.
Stage 2. Prepare for the Written test and Get through
Stage 3. Appear for the SSB Interview and Get Recommended
Stage 4. Appear for the Medical Examination and be declared FIT.
Stage 5. Your name must appear in the Merit List (UPSC).
Stage 6. Receipt of Joining Instructions for IMA.
